The Jocassee House
Experience Nature's Symphony in Style
ABOUT THE JOCASSEE HOUSE
Welcome to your sanctuary by the pristine waters of Lake Jocassee! We are delighted to
have you as our guest and to share in the natural splendor that surrounds us. Nestled
amidst the tranquil beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, our home offers a haven that
sleeps 10 and is directly on the waterfront of Jocassee with 600 feet of lakefront! The
house includes a dock with an extended ramp, a boat slip if you decide to rent a boat
with tie offs. A tram can bring you down to the floating dock, or you can walk down the
stone steps (these are uneven please walk with caution). There are single and double
seated kayaks, a canoe, life jackets, and water rafts/toys for your enjoyment!
Whether you are embarking on a scenic hike to explore hidden waterfalls, casting your
line for a day of fishing bliss, skiing, tubing, or simply unwinding on a leisurely boat ride,
Lake Jocassee enchants visitors with its timeless charm and undeniable allure, leaving
a lasting impression on all who have the pleasure of experiencing its wonders.
Whitewater Falls, Thompson Falls, and Wright Falls (a bridal veil falls) are nearby. Boat
entry is at Devils Fork State Park which has 3 boat ramps, a beach, and water toy
rentals. Several boat and watercraft rental companies are available that service the
lake and include lake tours, fishing and scuba diving. Please note that many days
during peak season Devil’s Fork boat ramps are full by 10 AM.
This 3,500 square foot house was built facing the East in 1995 by Bill and his sons
Nathan and Adam Masters. You get to wake up to a beautiful sunrise and watch the
light of the setting sun go away on the mountains! You get incredible views from the
front deck! The house was made using 175 year old hand hewn timbers - a mixture of
oak, cherry, and chestnut along with southern heart pine flooring. The house has a
personal touch to it, with unique trinkets placed in fun places around the house. Internet
is by Starlink! You can also take day trips to Highlands, NC and Cashiers, NC which
are about an hour and some change away. This is a private home and the first time it is
being offered to other than friends and family over the past 29 years. Please be
respectful of the home and our neighbors.

• Steps down to the house and lake are big boulders and are uneven. Be CAUTIOUS always!
• Interior steps spiral and are narrow. Please be mindful when you go up and down.
• There is a complex septic system, so please do not flush anything besides human biologic wastes and toilet paper. Best to put food and other wastes in trash because of this rather than using food disposed.
• Water is from a deep well and tastes great. There is a reverse osmosis filter next to faucet main kitchen sink if you want highly filtered water.
• All the showers have flow restrictors removed. Water comes out fast so be careful! There are two 40-gallon hot water tanks, one for each floor. Reheating from being emptied takes about 40 minutes.
• Front deck chairs are on a raised platform area which gives a great view BUT be mindful that steps descend to the main portion of the deck. Many people get taken in by the view so that they forget to look down at the steps!
• You are a visitor to the Jocassee Gorges – a wildlife sanctuary - expect critters to visit at all times including at night. You are one with nature here! Don’t be alarmed:
o Do not leave doors open at night – bats or chipmunks may enter. (Bats eat the bugs so the bugs don’t eat you. Right after dusk you may hear them)
o Do not leave trash or food outside except in lidded containers on site or take to Dumpster.
• There is no ambient lighting at night so it gets very dark outside – best to see stars! Be sure to use a flashlight if traversing steps outside at night.
At The Dock
• Be careful here as there are many things on which one can fall against and get hurt.
• There is a diving board. Weight limit is about 220 pounds.
• Although we try to eliminate wasps they continually try to make their nest under eves and the dock is a favorite place. If allergic please ALWAYS have an adult screen for insects and keep your medication accessible. There is wasp spray at the top of steps.
• Upstairs storage area on dock has water toys but be careful while accessing. Many of the life jackets and floats are older so we encourage you to bring your own. Access this area only with adult supervision. There is a jump off platform accessed only with a code and assumption of all liability!
o The hill tram is an incline elevator and under no circumstances is it to be used alone by anyone under 16 years old. Obey ALL signs and look both directions before using.
o Do not ride outside of tram.
o Never open door of carriage while tram is moving.
o It has safety measures but there is no safety measure for horse play or if someone falls in front of it while it’s moving.
o Never start the tram unless everyone in inside and the door closed.
o Tram has a mechanism, such as used on a skyscraper window washer platform, the SKYLOCK, where sudden bouncing while tram is underway will STOP the tram and it will NOT restart. You may have to call EMS to safely rescue passengers as it is elevated. Tram will be down as it will have to be serviced.
o Tram is dangerous if not respected.
• Kayaks -there are several kayaks from short play boats for kids to expert sea kayaks. The hanging double kayaks are very heavy so it takes two strong adults to lower.
• The available boat slip is for any boat you bring or rent if it fits. It has a lift just under the water so falling onto this could cause harm.
Please enjoy your stay!
